Villa Mozart

Architectural concept — competition winner

Original signed elevation drawing titled Villa Napoli by Miguel Escobar

The City of Montreal’s first open architecture competition. Escobar was 26 and had not yet been issued his licence. He entered against more than twenty established firms, and the site was awarded on the strength of the design rather than the bid. Originally Villa Napoli, after the furniture store next door. Its corner tower still marks the turn toward Jean-Talon Market.
